Stages of construction of Quinta da Regaleira palace
The construction of Quinta da Regaleira Palace began in 1904 and took approximately six years to complete.
Excavation of the Site
The first stage involved the excavation of the site and the construction of the foundation. The palace was built on a slope, which presented some challenges for the builders. To address this, they constructed retaining walls and reinforced the foundation to ensure the stability of the building.
Exterior Walls and Roof
The second stage of construction involved the building of the exterior walls and the roof. The palace features a range of architectural styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, Manueline, and Romanticism, which were incorporated into the design of the façade.
Interior Decoration
The third stage involved the interior decoration of the palace. The interior features intricate carvings, stained-glass windows, and ornate furnishings. The builders paid meticulous attention to detail in the construction of the palace, using high-quality materials and craftsmanship.
Landscaping
The final stage of construction involved the landscaping of the palace grounds. This included the construction of the Initiation Well, Leda's Cave, the Chapel and various other ornamental structures.
